As announced, in occasion of the ECREA conference in Prague the Temporary Working Group Media & The City will renew its management team. By the deadline of October 24th the following self-nomination for the new team of a chair and two vice-chairs was submitted:

Team A

Chair: SIMONE TOSONI, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.

Vice-chair 1: SEIJA RIDELL, University of Tampere Vice-chair 2: TANYA LOKOT, Dublin City University

Albeit there is only one candidate team (Team A), the TWG will proceed with election according to the ECREA procedure. For the individual candidates’ presentations, see the end of the message. All members of the TWG are hereby invited to vote in one of the following two ways:

  1. a) E-mailing their vote to mediacity.twg [@] gmail.com by November 9th, 2016. Obs. Type “TWG management team election” on the subject row and the name of the management team selected in the body of the message. Please, do use the email address you have in your ECREA account.
  1. b) Exercising their voting rights during the TWG Business Meeting in the ECREA 2016 conference in Prague. The Business Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 10th, at 13:30-14:30, in meeting room 343. All members attending the conference are warmly welcome to participate in the business meeting.

The election will be decided by relative majority.

TEAM A: CANDIDATES

SIMONE TOSONI is Assistant Professor at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Milan) and has acted as the vice-chair of the ECREA’s Temporary Working Group Media & the City in 2014–2016. His research interests concern media-related practices in urban space, mediated urbanism, and methods and methodology for Urban Media Studies. On these topics, he has recently edited the special issue of The International Journal of Communication ‘Going about the City. Methods and Methodologies for Urban Communication Research’ (2016, with Giorgia Aiello).

SEIJA RIDELL is Professor of Media Studies at the School of Communication, Media and Theatre, University of Tampere, Finland, and the chair of the Media & the City Temporary Working Group in 2014–2016. Her most recent research focuses on infrastructures of technologically mediated (inter)action in diverse public and semi-public spatial contexts, including the hybrid urban space. She has edited several journal special issues related to urban media studies, e.g. on ‘Mediated urbanism’ for The International Communication Gazette (2013, with Frauke Zeller) and on ‘Mediacity on the move’ for the Finnish journal Media & communication (2014, with Jaana Parviainen and Sami Kolamo). She is currently an associate editor of ICG.

TANYA (Tetyana) LOKOT is a Lecturer at the School of Communications, Dublin City University, Ireland. Her research and writing focus on the interplay between spaces, digital media, and civic actors in the context of augmented protest in post-Soviet countries. Her recent research on the Euromaidan protests in Ukraine and augmented dissent focused on how protesters in post-Soviet cities understand and harness the affordances and limitations of digital technology to augment their tactics and protest outcomes in an urban setting. She has presented her urban media and protest studies work at ICA, IAMCR, and the Media and The City conference in Zagreb in 2015, and her non-academic writing has appeared in The Guardian and The Moscow Times, among others.
